Marathon Oil Grant Supports Five Ramps

We want to send a huge THANK YOU to Marathon Oil for providing us with a grant that made it possible for us to build five wheelchair ramps for low-income homeowners who are older adults and/or living with a disability!

We helped homeowners like Karen, who is 61, and shares her home with her daughter, age 32. Both Karen and her daughter struggle with physical disabilities. They are both employed and love their home, but needed an exterior ramp to be able to come and go independently and safely. The home’s stairs were too deep and short, making them difficult to navigate safely and increasing the likelihood of a fall. With the funding provided by Marathon, we were thrilled to be able to provide them with a ramp so they can remain in their home.

Thank you for supporting this important work!

Welcome Sharlett Glidden to the Team

We are thrilled to welcome Sharlett Glidden to the Rebuilding Together Minnesota Team as an AmeriCorps Project Coordinator in Southwest Minnesota!

Sharlett was born in Jamaica and lived there for 15 years before coming to Minnesota. She wrote, “I am honored for the opportunity of becoming a member of AmeriCorps…I have spent my adult life so far serving in the non-profit world, which fuels my passion for helping people at the disadvantage of not being able to help themselves. I am a mother of a little girl who cartwheels in spaces that one may find impossible to perform a cartwheel and employed full-time worker.  Some of the things that bring me joy are shopping, eating, helping others, and traveling. My goal is to use my skills to serve honorably and humbly with AmeriCorps.”

Welcome to the Team Sharlett!

Nobles County Rebuilding Day Was a Huge Success!

Thank you to everyone who came together to make our first annual Nobles County Rebuilding Day a huge success!  Together with our volunteers and sponsors, we provided repairs and accessibility modifications for two low-income homeowners in Worthington on September 10th. We also provided additional homeowners in Southwest Minnesota with safety improvements and repairs throughout the month, including our Cottonwood County Rebuilding Day in Mountain Lake which was held on September 24th.  Stay tuned next month for an update on that Rebuilding Day!

One of the homeowners we helped is Mary, a single mother of four. Volunteers spent the day landscaping to protect the basement from water damage, installing smoke and CO detectors, fixing and installing doors, cleaning gutters, and adding downspouts and leaf guards.  Volunteers at the second home added grab bars and replaced kitchen flooring.  We also replaced the furnace at the home, ensuring the family will be warm and safe this winter.

We would like to send a shout out to the Worthington High School Trojans football team who volunteered with us for the day!

Thanks to our amazing sponsors including: Wells Fargo, Cemstone, Tru Shine Truck Wash, Mike Woll Investment Office, Henning Construction, Inc., Hy-Vee, Bedford Industries, First State Bank Southwest, Sanford Health, Worthington Building Materials, Worthington Federal Savings Bank and Juniper.

We would also like to send a very special thank you to our Nobles County Rebuilding Day committee who raised funding for these projects, recruited volunteers, and organized the projects!
